Keep your diary clear, these aviation events will have your April sorted

Against Aerial Attack – Commemorating Home Defences in World War One talk at Bodmin Airfield – April 18

This is Cornwall Aero club’s last winter talk of the season and will look at the various ground defence systems used to protect Britain against German aerial attack. These include landing grounds, wireless stations, AA batteries and sound mirrors along the coast of England that were crucial in keeping our country safe.

The talk begins at 7.30pm and more details on how to attend can be found through the link.

Lancaster Bomber Just Jane Sunset Run and Night Shoot at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre – April 28

There are few sights in aviation quite as breathtaking as a Lancaster firing up for take off and now photographers have this one-off opportunity to capture one specific bomber, ‘Just Jane’, at various times of the evening. To add to the authentic atmosphere, re-enactors in period gear will be creating scenes reminiscent of what you would have seen at the height of WWII.

The event starts at 5pm and will run until 10:30pm. Tickets are £60 per person.

Wings and Wheels at Old Buckenham Airfield – April 29

Owners of classic aircraft and vehicles have been invited to this airfield in Norfolk for a spring celebration of internal combustion. The new 453rd Bombardment Group Museum will also be open throughout the celebration to learn about a group that was home to Jimmy Stewart and Walter Matthau.

Gates open 10am and entry is £2 per person or £5 per car load if more than two in the car.

The 29th Gatwick International Aircraft Enthusiasts Fair at K2 Crawley – April 22

Come and buy or trade anything connected with aviation or aviation-themed hobbies at what is thought to be Europe’s biggest show of its type. Such products include models, photographs, airline timetables, postcards, posters, stickers, virtual radar receivers and memorabilia.

Admission is £5 and OAPs are £4. The fair runs from 10am to 4pm.

Aero Jumble at the Weston-Super-Mare Helicopter Museum – April 29

A good event for aviation and military collectors, you’ll be able to browse a large selection of WWII memorabilia, rotor blades, signed prints, cockpit instruments, model kits and badges and medals.

The jumble takes place between 10am and 5.30pm.
