Pilot magazine and Pilotweb are compiled by a talented team of individuals with many different skills. Some are expert aviators, some are professional journalists and photographers, others have IT and web knowledge. We all share a love of flying and all things aviation.

Nick Wall
Group Editor
Nick has been a professional journalist all his working life and has been flying since the age of 15. He has a JAR-PPL, also flies gliders and is a glider tug pilot – he was once heard to say "You cannot fly an Extra straight and level, they’re way too much fun for that…"

Philip Whiteman
Associate Editor
A qualified mechanical engineer, Philip served his journalistic apprenticeship under long-term Pilot proprietor and Editor James Gilbert. Having tried his hand at everything from flexwing microlights to twin-engine turboprops and airliner sims, Philip keeps in touch with grassroots aviation, operating his 1944 Piper Cub from a Buckinghamshire farm strip.

A beady-eyed copy editor and social media-savvy blogger, Hazel takes care of any mis-placed commas and split infinitives while also looking after Pilot’s online presence. She’s new to the GA lark, but is happily learning the ropes…

Louise Walker
Art Editor
Trained in the offices of Fleet Street (or thereabouts), Louise now designs every page of Pilot and its supplements. She especially enjoys working with the spectacular ‘Going Places’ and air-to-air shots.

James Allan
Contributing Editor
Published author and long-time Pilot contributor, James learnt to fly with Glasgow University Air Squadron. Highlights of his flying career include peering into the crater of Mount St Helens from a Cessna Skyhawk, landing a Sunderland in Loch Ryan, and formation aerobatics in a Meteor.

Bob Grimstead

Bob, a display pilot and retired commercial pilot, has been writing for Pilot for 25 years. He also casts a keen eye over every page of Pilot before it reaches the presses.

Mike Jerram
Contributing Editor
Mike has been an aviation journalist for over 30 years. He edits ‘Pilot Notes’ and ‘Safety Matters’ and is a senior editor on a US airshow daily.

Peter March
Contributing Editor
A full-time aviation photo journalist and contributor to Pilot since 1988, Peter has flown Cessna 172 G-ASSS for over 40 years. He is the long-time editor and writer of 'Old Timers'.

Dave Unwin
Flight Test Editor
Formerly the editor of Today’s Pilot, Dave is now Pilot’s Flight Test editor. He’s been flying for 26 years, ranging from antique gliders and vintage biplanes to modern turboprops and jet fighters, and has around 4,300 hours in about 250 different types. He currently owns the Evans VP-1 ‘Biffo’ and has a share in a K-6CR.
