I'm probably about a fifth of the way through my PPL after a break of 8 years, and the thing that drives me most is the idea of being able to take family and friends to France or Spain, maybe even for a holiday! Is there are any limit to the number of passengers you can carry on a PPL? And is it practical to be able to go away on holiday on a single engine aircraft? Ideally I'd like to take all of my family (6 no) with the usual amount of luggage each. ??

Re: Passengers
Hi, On a vanilla PPL I believe you are limited to 3 pax, someone else may well be able to confirm/refute this. In theory France/Spain with the family is doable, however to carry 6 all up you will need something larger than the average first time aircraft, maybe a PA32 or similar, and of course the complex rating to go with it. As is always the case though whatever you fly, you will need to consider weight and balance. Just because a plane has 6 seats doesn't mean you can always carry six passengers and luggage and fuel. Speak to your instructor about W&B he may well be able to clear things for you. Hope this is of some help, and welcome to the forum.
If you hold a JAA PPL there is no limit to number of pax on a single engine Aircraft.
You will require differences training for Wobbly Prop and Dropping Dunlops, or indeed Turbo prop.
A PA 32 will just about lift 6,but don't wear a coats or carry on baggage.

I believe it is the same for a FAA PPL. No limit on the passengers. You just cannot have passengers for compensation but they can contribute to fuel costs etc... http://www.things-to-do-before-you-die.com
