World renowned aerobatic display team, The Blades, has donated over £4,000 to Aerobility, a charity which gives disabled people the opportunity to fly

The leading team of former Red Arrow pilots welcomed Aerobility’s Chairman Shona Bowman, students and tutors to the team’s base at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire to receive the donation. The Aerobility team also enjoyed an afternoon with the Blades to celebrate the charity’s 25th anniversary.

For almost a decade, The Blades have hosted an annual charity event, The Blades Ball, to raise vital funds for a selection of nominated charities which includes the team’s charity partner the RAF Benevolent Fund, Aerobility, and a Northamptonshire charity chosen by the Blades event committee.

Andy Evans, Blade 1 and Team Leader commented: ‘‘The team has supported Aerobility for many years and we hope to continue our support for many more. Aerobility is a fantastic charity; flying is one of the greatest experiences you can have and Aerobility provides the platform which enables disabled people that very same opportunity.”

Aerobility Chairman, Shona Bowman, commented, “Aerobility is so thankful for the continued support from the Blades Display Team and really treasure our special relationship with such a prestigious team. This donation means a great deal to us and will go a long way to ensuring we are able to continue our work making aviation accessible to everyone.”

Aerobility provides ‘experience of a lifetime’ trial flying lessons for as many terminally ill and disabled people as possible every year, also subsidised flying days for other disability charities and at-cost instruction and qualification flight training to disabled people.
