Duxford announces aircraft with Royal connections for Jubilee Air Show

Duxford has confirmed details of its Jubilee Air Show on Sunday 27 May.

Duxford has confirmed details of its Jubilee Air Show on Sunday 27 May.

The event will feature a range of contemporary aircraft – which will be flown by the RAF – including a BAe Hawk, Eurofighter Typhoon andBeechcraft King Air.

Additionally, a number of craft with royal connections willbe included such as the DCH-1 Chipmunk WP903 in which Prince Charles learned tofly.

A Grob Tutor 115E – the type of aircraft Prince William wastaught to fly on before piloting a Shorts Tucano (also represented at the show)– will be taking part, as well as the Westland Sea King; the aircraft currentlyflown by the Prince as part of his role as a search-and-rescue co-pilot.

Visitors will also be able to see the Westland Lynx – thetype of helicopter flown by Prince Andrew.

Furthermore, the type of aircraft owned by Prince EdwardVIII in 1935 – the stunning DH89A Dragon Rapide – in which he flew to Duxford to a Royal reviewcelebrating the jubilee of his father, King George V, will be seen soaringabove the crowds.

Other aircraft with Royal links will include the NorthAmerican Harvard and the Gloster Meteor T7 – both of which were flown by PrincePhilip.

They will be joined by historic aircraft including HawkerNimrod single-seat biplanes, Spitfires, the B-17 Flying Fortress Sally B, the Avro Anson, and the Battleof Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster, Hawker Hurricane and SupermarineSpitfire.

In order to celebrate the Olympics the Jubilee Air Show willalso feature a display by the Bucker Jungmeister – which triumphed in theaerobatic competition at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

Displays will take place by the F-16 Fighting Falcon from360 Squadron, Belgian Air Force, the French Air Force’s Patrouille CartoucheDore aerobatic team, and the SBach Duo - Steve Jones and Paul Bonhomme.

On the ground, visitors can make and paint their own Airfixmodels, explore the museum and enjoy a range of family activities andchildren’s rides.
