What makes a watch desirable? The design? The quality of its components? The way it fits? The reliability? Of course all of these things play a part, but something else not to overlook is its history.

The history of a watch cannot be replicated, emulated or changed. It is a story that has already been written.

When researching the pilot watch, it doesn’t take long for the Laco name to reveal itself. Founded in 1925 by entrepreneurs Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel in Pforzheim, Germany, the company gained notoriety by incorporating Swiss-made movements in their home grown watch cases.

By 1936, the Laco company was churning out the soon to be legendary and now highly popular observation watches for the German air force.

Original Pilot watches have been manufactured using two different dial designs. Baumuster A and Baumuster B. Few watchmakers of the time aside from Laco could meet the stringent quality and accuracy requirements of those who relied on these timepieces to fly.

Today, the Laco Flieger Family has superseded the first pilot watches, offering a colour finish on the watchcase that makes it practically undistinguishable from the original. The hands are thermally annealed in blue, complemented by the stylish and extremely soft calf leather strap, providing the wearer maximum comfort.

Laco have a fascinating collection of watches with influences from their rich history. All of which are still manufactured entirely on site in the same area of Germany that they were originally conceived some 90 years ago. You don’t have to be a pilot to own a piece of pure aviation history.

Page and Cooper are proud to be the official UK distributors of the Laco original pilot watch.
