Recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the UK forced organizers of the show, marking the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, to cancel the event
The organizers of the 80th Anniversary Battle of Britain Air Show 2020 at Duxford have been forced to cancel the show due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The cancellation was announced less than a week before the event was to take place over the weekend of 18-20 September at Duxford.
In their announcement the organizers, the Imperial War Museums, highlighted their strenuous effort to make this year’s event possible and thanked ‘visitors, supporters, partners neighbours and staff members for their incredible support over the past few days and weeks’.
Eventually, however, the decision was made to cancel the show as ‘it would be irresponsible to continue with the event in this rapidly-changing climate’.
After infection rates from Covid-19 had remained stable in much of Europe over July and August, the last several weeks saw a resurgence of cases, with the UK itself recording more than 3,800 infections on 7 September, a number not seen since early May.
