The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale has created two new awards sponsored by Breitling.
The Breitling Milestone Trophy is for an individual or group that ‘has achieved a significant milestone, technological step or invention in aeronautics or astronautics during the previous year and that might contribute to future developments, especially in the practice of air sports’.
The Breitling Youngster Award is reserved for a person who, in the previous twelve months and before his or her 26th birthday, ‘has achieved an outstanding sporting performance which is considered by the nominating authority as beyond the normal level of performance compared to what can usually be done, or excelled in a certain area of his sport and is considered as a reference, or significantly contributed to the development and promotion of aeronautics or astronautics’.
Each year’s winners will be chosen by a panel made up of three representatives each from Breitling and the FAI. The deadline for this year’s nominations is 30 June. Full details can be found at fai.org/awards/fai-breitling-awards
