IWM Duxford has announced details of the five Spitfires that will be on static display and taking to the air at Spitfires, Merlins and Motors on Sunday 28 July.

Taking centre stage will be the Old Flying Machine Company’s Supermarine Spitfire IX MH434, an IWM Duxford favourite which is celebrating its 70th anniversary year. MH434 has been based at IWM Duxford longer than any other Spitfire.

Joining MH434 on static display between 10am and 1.30pm will be Air Leasing’s Spitfire IXT, Historic Aircraft Collection’s Spitfire V and The Fighter Collection’s Spitfire XIV. Members of the Spitfire Society will be on hand to answer questions as you get a closer look at these historic aircraft.

During the afternoon, the Spitfires will take to the skies for short solo and duo displays.

You can also sit in a Spitfire owned by Aircraft Restoration Company. This rare opportunity is available between 10am and 11.45am and also between 2pm and 5pm. It costs £15 per person and includes a souvenir T-shirt and photo opportunity. All proceeds go to the Blenheim Restoration Fund.

The event will also include displays of Merlin engines and classic cars, as well as ‘costumed living history interpreters’ and an authentic Second World War RAF ground crew interactive display.
