Nigel Lamb wins Malaysian leg of air races

Nigel Lamb has claimed first place in the Red Bull Air Race at Putrajaya, ahead of Hannes Arch and Matt Hall.

The Breitling Team member and Pilot contributor set a new course record in his MXS-R with a time of 1:15.023 in his Final 4 run. After competing in 44 races and landing a total of six previous podiums this was the first time that he had taken the gold medal. The win moves him up to third place in the overall rankings, behind Hannes Arch and Paul Bonhomme.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Lamb said:

“Thank you to everyone for the support and the many, many messages of congratulations for what has been a game changing experience for me and my amazing team. You cannot imagine the feeling to win after so many years of effort and several second places!”

Austria’s Hannes Arch took second place – moving into the overall lead with thirty points – while Australia’s Matt Hall placed third.
